F12 Gene
The F12 gene provides instructions for making a protein called coagulation factor XII. Coagulation factors are a group of related proteins essential for normal coagulation. After an injury, clots protect the body by sealing off damaged blood vessels and preventing further blood loss. 2 missense mutations in the F12 gene as the cause hereditary angioedema type III. Angioedema is the rapid edema, or swelling, of the area beneath the skin or mucosa. It is normally an allergic reaction, but it can also be hereditary.
