MYH11 Gene

The MYH11 gene provides instructions for making a protein called smooth muscle myosin heavy chain 11. It belongs to a group of proteins called myosins, which are involved in cell movement and the transport of materials within and between cells. Diseases associated with MYH11 include Aortic Aneurysm, Familial Thoracic 4 and Familial Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm and Aortic Dissection. The L1264P and R1275L heterozygous mutations of the myosin heavy chain 11 (MYH11) gene have been reported to cause thoracic aortic aneurysms and/or dissections (TAAD).
